Abstract

BACKGROUND: Due to the presence of polyphenols and flavonoids, the tea plant Camelliasinensis is well known for its abundant antioxidant capabilities. These bioactive substances areessential for reducing oxidative stress, which is a major contributor to plaque development andgingival inflammation, by neutralizing free radicals. Mouthwashes made of herbs, especially teabased ones, are becoming more and more popular as safer substitutes for traditional chemicals like chlorhexidine.
